There and Back Again...
May. 23rd, 2003 09:33 amNotably not a hobbit's tale.
By Elisel:
Went to Memphis. YAY! Stayed with Ali and Laris. YAY! Saw Alsafi, Whisperflight, and Rabidlemur. YAY!
Kept missing Troutqueen. Could she be Superman...?
Computer working right again - at least for the time being. Could have something to do with the GINORMOUS MONSTER DUSTBUNNY that fell out of the casing when I was loading it back up. Hmmmm. Here's hoping!
Gave swan presentation to TOS; actually managed to remember most of the details of a trip I took two years ago. YAY!
Drove over the Pyramid-bridge on my way back to I-40. The river persisted for much longer than the river usually does. It must be three or four times its normal width at that point, right now. Oh, flooding, disaster, loss of crop-land; natur triumphs once again over the Corps of Engineers. Upon consideration, YAY!
(I highly recommend those of you in the vicinity go and check this out. It's worth the drive. It's creepy as hell, in a way, but flooding is always cool to me. All the evil ducks....)
Got stuck on I-40 about 60 miles out of town in standstill, turn-your-engine-off-and-sit-for-half-an-hour traffic. Never did find out what the problem was. Eventually turned around and followed the other cars back the wrong way on the freeway to the detour that was set up by police just after I passed by. Note: The government has us well-programmed. Even when there is no oncoming traffic, driving the wrong way down the interstate is enough to make your heart stop.
Got back on the road after the detour. Remainder of drive uneventful. YAY!
Slept in own bed at home again. Cats missed me. YAY!
Heard yarking in the night. Woke to find Genrou had yarked ON MY NEW SHOES. Dude... not cool! NO yay. ;_;
Now I put on soggy shoes and go to fill out paperwork for my summer internship. YAY!
Except for the soggy shoes bit.
