Just returned from my NYC trip with
alliath,
demonlet,
calypsobard, and
neherenia. There was much mirth.
Wicked was awesome beyond description. I will not endeavor to describe the coolness of it, for I would fail. I will, however, confess that I bawled like a baby. I thought I'd be okay till Act Two, but I burst unexpectedly into tears at the end of the first number. Cried again at the end of Act One, and then during the final few numbers. Musicals make me weep like nothing else.
Being total girls, we painted our nails green before the show in honor of Elphaba. Being total fangirls, several of us handed over the cash for the signed posters they were selling as part of an annual fundraisers. That's right. Signed. By the whole cast. Oh, the happy. It is mine. <3
Saturday we puttered around the city, went to Chinatown, saw another musical (Bombay Dreams), and I hared off on my own to visit Mr. and Mrs. K and their week-old baby Sophia. After an initial refusal, they bullie-- *ahem* talked me into holding her. Doing so was definitely a mistake, bad for my biological clock. I was forced to admit: Cute baby. Very, very cute baby. And I very seldom find babies anything but obnoxious. Help.
However, I am proud of myself for daring the oh-so-frightening streets of Brooklyn - not to mention subway navigation - by my lonesome. I definitely do not have the subway-fu. But I got there, durnit, and didn't end up in Queens or anything.
Saturday night, we passed Matthew Broderick in the street in Times Square. It happened so fast we didn't even really process it until he was behind us. And we were all kind of, "Buh? He looked like - wait, this is New York. Heeeeey..."
Sunday we rode the ferry to Staten Island and back, puttered around the Museum of Natural History, and pretty much crashed out in the hotel room.
And Monday morning before catching the (SUPER EVIL OBNOXIOUS SUV) taxi back to the airport, we paid the second of two visits to the mall in Pavonia, where
alliath has proven she should be my personal shopper. She is better at picking out clothes that look good on me than I am. I came home with a couple of new blouses. Hurrah!
Awesome show. Awesome people. Awesome weekend.
