Apparently there was a magnitude 3.7 earthquake up in Dyersburg this morning, about an hour ago.

I got to work today, and my lab-mate asked, "So, did the earthquake wake you up?"

Me: "...Buh? Whu? Quake?"

Apparently he felt it. We got nothing out in Collierville - or nothing I noticed, anyway. Anybody else feel anything?

Maybe if the New Madrid fault ever does decide to swallow us up whole, I will sleep through it.

Phone interview in fifteen minutes.

No, not about the phone interview. That actually went really well. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, as I have to wait another week to two weeks to find out if I'll be asked for a secondary interview.

The topic of my rabid, frothing rant today is the spelling of a word.

It's not a difficult word, but I see it misspelled on an almost weekly basis. I see it misspelled professionally, accepted by book editors and authors as correct - which I can only assume means they think it is right. And it's a misspelling that, for some strange reason, offends me far beyond the simple impact of the word.

The word is DEITY.

For the love of the deity of your choice, it is not spelled D-I-E-T-Y. Unless possibly you're talking about a Buddha who's going to the gym five times a week and counting calories, there is no such thing as a 'diety.' I WILL CRY IF EVERYBODY IN THE WORLD DOES NOT START SPELLING THIS WORD CORRECTLY IMMEDIATELY.

What? What's your problem? Don't quote 'I before E' rules at me! What, you think English was designed to make sense??? Don't be daft, man!

...Okay. I'm done now. I think.

Yes. I was that nerd who won the high school spelling bee.
