Not really. At least, I don't consider myself one. I do consider myself environmentally aware.
...Which is why it upsets me that my mother refuses to recycle. She complained yesterday that the folks who do trash pick-up often break glass on her driveway. (This is probably because the amount of beer bottles that she and GT go through on a weekly basis would shame a college student.) I suggested recycling as an alternative, since it would keep the glass out of her garbage and be less wasteful.
I did some simple research, and discovered something I did not know: The town of Collierville has a curbside recycling program. All we'd need to do is get a bin delivered, and we'd be set to go.
Mom doesn't want to deal with it. She considers "sorting garbage" too much trouble, and doesn't want to have to find a place for the second garbage can to live.
She also doesn't want to let me keep a recycle box in the laundry room, although I have offered to tote bags of recyclables to a drop-off place in Memphis. She doesn't like the idea of - wait for it - cluttering up the laundry room.
This disturbs me greatly. It seems like so little effort for a worthwhile endeavor, to me.
