...I consider my friend SS, who has gotten an enormous kick in the seat of her karmic pants. She's a student at Ole Miss, and one of our contractors at work, which is where I met her. And she is Good People.

Her family's from New Orleans, and they lost everything in the hurricane. They didn't even salvage more than a few clothes from the rubble. Now her family's in an efficiency in Ocean Springs, and she's been living up here waiting for the semester to begin. Two weeks ago, she got a call from her mother saying her dad was in the emergency room, and drove down in the middle of the night. Initially, the prognosis was a kidney stone - but his pain kept intensifying, and so they did exploratory surgery (a phrase that I'd never heard before, and that terrifies me on general principle). It turns out her father is in advanced renal failure, and is not a likely candidate for a kidney transplant due to some complications. So he's on dialysis, and she's moving back to Ocean Springs, and transferring to school down there so that she can be with her family.

This girl needs a break.

It makes me very sad on a selfish level that she's leaving, too, because although we didn't get to spend much time together, she's the closest friend I had in Oxford. We went to dinner on Friday while she was up here, and had a blast at Chili's, just letting her wind down for a while. Beers were two-for-one during happy hour, and the waiter brought out four mugs all at once, which made us giggle maniacally. We ordered two desserts, figuring we'd share, and then discovered that any ONE of those desserts would have fed both of us with some left over. Alcohol + sugar shock = Two seriously silly females.

And then we went to Wal-Mart to get her some plastic storage containers since she's packing a lot of her things into a storage unit, and wound up wandering around for about an hour and a half, looking at cheap clothes. (Oh, God. I had a fun Friday night in WAL-MART. Someone get me out of Mississippi; I've been here TOO LONG.) I scored a Yoshi tank top, and Superman and Spider-Man t-shirts. Win! I also did... Christmas shopping. Scary.

Hopefully she is back safely at home now.

I called my dad yesterday to tell him I loved him.

All I've gotta say is, I totally and forever absolve everyone who writes Axel/Sora slash.

I mean, I don't go for non-canon slash....

....and it still practically writes itself.

Dude. XD
