Wanted: More Friends
Nov. 8th, 2006 06:10 pmI unpacked my Box'O'Christmas stuff today, so I could get to labels for giftwrapping. (I do, however, DAMN WELL REFUSE to put out decorations - at least until after Thanksgiving, darnit.) In the process, I discovered something disturbing.
I'm one of those people who buys adorable Christmas cards when they're on sale at the end of the season and packs 'em away to send the next year. This is fine, except that LAST year I did not have access to my cards, on account of everything I owned being in storage in another state. This did not stop me from buying a couple more boxes of irresistible cards in early 2006.
I also got a couple of boxes of cards last month when they were on sale early (I know, I know... but HOW COULD I RESIST GLITTERY PENGUINS???). And then my mother helpfully ordered -- without asking if I wanted or needed them -- two boxes of "personalized" Christmas cards for me (by which we mean pre-signed ... which I actually find sort of irritating and impersonal. But she meant well).
The end result? I am sitting here looking at 11 boxes of Christmas cards. At an average of 20 cards per box, I need to find 220 friends to send cards this year. And I'm not sure I have that many friends.
Be forewarned. Got a toddler? They're getting a card. Got a dog? Cat? Bird? Horse? Fish? An entire menagerie? They're all getting their own individual cards. I'll consider houseplants if I'm really desperate. (Surely Chuck, at least, qualifies as card-able....) Mrs.
stationary_jew is going to get one, too -- hell, she gets mail from everybody else, why not me?
On my eljay friendslist and I don't have your mailing address? For God's sake, give it to me so I can send you a card.
I really, really don't want to have to pack up any of these things again in January.
...Besides, then how would I justify buying new cards on sale at the end of this holiday season?
