"Grrr, yay, yay, yay, ya--bu-WHAT?"
Sep. 17th, 2007 07:47 amWhich was sort of how my weekend went. It was awesome until I heard that one of my favorite authors had died.
Friday started rough, with one frustration after another: First a professor who couldn't understand the question I was trying to ask ("If n really means n-1, then shouldn't the formula just SAY n-1? And if n sometimes means n and sometimes means n-1, then how do I know when it means what?") and then an experiment that just wouldn't work right, capped off with a delivery service that would not actually deliver mail to me. Friday? I was crabby at the WORLD. Oh, yes.
Cheered up quite a lot when I headed to Memphis for anime with
whisperflight and
alsafi, plus tasty Japanese food. Saturday morning we hit the Memphis Farmer's Market and the Cooper-Young Festival, then retired for more anime. I headed home Saturday evening so that I could play for UUCO on Sunday morning, then proctored a practice test in the afternoon. Productive me!
I spent Sunday evening baking cookies (which will be used to lure in my Botany students to a lecture exam study session this evening). One of these recipes BEGAN with boiling a cup of molasses, which can only be a good thing. Especially after you add sugar, buttermilk, and shortening. Not butter, mind you: Shortening. I bought a big ol' tub of lard at the grocery store yesterday.
Also, this weekend: I got worms! <3 Wait, perhaps I should rephrase. Also, this weekend: I got a tubful of red wigglers from a professor who's into vermiculture, so that I can start my own worm farm. They eat your vegetable scraps and make awesome compost. They don't smell bad, and live on your porch most of the year, and are great listeners, and never disagree with you... All right, so I'm exaggerating, but I do feel sort of like I got a tubful of new pets. Very, very low-maintenance pets. Pets that I will not be cuddling anytime soon.
Still, yay - worms! <3
STILL sad about Jordan. He'd been talking about the series he intended to write after he finished Wheel of Time. I wanted to read it. :(
