So, I just saw The Seeker - which, if you haven't been paying attention, is the movie based on Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising. A friend of mine works at the movie theatre in town and took me as her guest to see it for free. <3

I haven't read the book in ages, although it is one of my all-time favorites, and deliberately didn't refresh my memory before going to the movie. So bear in mind, my memory of the specifics in the book is pretty fuzzy. Nonetheless:

1) Non-spoilery review: If you don't like adaptations that stray significantly from the original book, you may violently dislike this film. There were a lot of changes. Like, changes even I noticed. If you go with the Queen of the Damned approach ("Queen of the Damned was a pretty good movie, and coincidentally enough, there was a book written a while back with the same name!") then you may decide that it is a damn good movie. There are, predictably, some themes that we've seen a lot of lately, but - young adult book. Also, Cooper probably started some of those themes.

I felt that even though a lot of details got changed, the movie was true to the *feel* of the books, and that really worked for me.

2) Potentially Spoilery Review: )

Also: ADORABLE MEDIEVAL KITTEN. ZOMG.

Overall, I was really pleased. Happiness. If anyone wants to brave the theatre but is afraid to go without moral support, I will cheerfully accompany for another round.
