My poor hairless baby. :(
Dec. 13th, 2007 10:45 pmSo, Casper went to the groomer's today to get de-matted. It was supposed to be fairly routine, except:
1) He was so badly matted that they shaved him - partially because he'd yanked out some of his own mats and irritated his skin, and they want me to be able to keep an eye on it; and
2) They had to sedate him to do it, which involved bloodwork and a vet checkup before they gave him the cocktail.
I was told by the clinic staff that the stuff they give cats has hallucinogenic properties. Nearly twelve hours later, Casper is still staggering around, and I've only just let him out of his crate, so I can believe it.
While he was being examined, the vet found signs of stomatitis, which is apparently some sort of gum disease/tooth rot. She wants to do a full dental workup on him, and possibly pull two molars. ACK. Poor baby.
So I'm now very stressed and worried about my cat and what he may have to go through, nervous that this vet is overdiagnosing him (although everything I have heard about her is very, VERY positive), and concerned that in his regular vet visit JUST LAST WEEK, the doctor told me his teeth were fine. ONE of these people is wrong. I just don't know which, and my cat's health may depend on me making the right decision. ._.
Oh, and the shaving. Understand, when I GOT Casper, he'd been shaved down for similar reasons - as
hawklady will remember well. So I figured I knew how silly he'd look. They told me he looked like a Siamese now, in terms of coat length. HAH. Perhaps they meant to say he looks like a Sphinx.
...Despite my worry, I can't help but laugh at him. Just a little.
He is FULL OF HATE. But you know, it's gotta feel better than mats.
