I have arrived.
May. 21st, 2008 10:06 pmI feel like I'm officially a scientist now. This evening in Ace Hardware, while collecting the supplies to make a sand sled (don't ask, there will be pictures if it works), I found myself unable to communicate except in metrics.
Me: "Hi, could I get some of this rope? I need about two met... uh... two feet."
Store guy: *gives me a funny look, but measures off two feet and looks at me for confirmation*
Me: "Uh. No. Uh. Sorry. I guess I meant... yards would be closer to meters, wouldn't it? Yeah. Yards."
On the other hand, my brain could just be fried.
Really, that's more likely.
Tomorrow I leave for Biloxi; I'm meeting with my advisor and we're going to get out to the barrier islands Friday and Saturday.
Of course, looking at the forecast, we're due for thunderstorms. Given that storms probably also mean high seas, we may get rained out.
Again.
-.-
