The questions:
1. One book that changed your life.
2. One book that you've read more than once.
3. One book you'd want on a desert island.
4. One book that made you laugh.
5. One book that made you cry.
6. One book that you wish had been written.
7. One book that you wish had never been written.
8. One book you're currently reading.
9. One book you've been meaning to read.
Bonus question: What book scared you the most?
Yeah, I know. It's hard to pick just one.
My answers:
1. One book that changed your life: The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan. Even though it was sort of preaching to the choir, I was a half-hearted singer before I learned more about the issues. Pollan definitely changed the lengths to which I'm willing to go to support local produce, organics, and free-range-raised meats and poultry.
2. One book that you've read more than once: The Hero and the Crown, Robin McKinley. I don't quite have it memorized, but I'm getting there.
3. One book you'd want on a desert island: Survive on a Desert Island, Claire Llewellyn. Come on, what else makes sense? Er. Or maybe I'm missing the point of this question...
4. One book that made you laugh: Dave Barry Does Japan, by - wait for it - Dave Barry. It also made me cry, but only because I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe.
5. One book that made you cry: Magic's Price, Mercedes Lackey. Hey, SHUT UP. I was in high school. And it's sad.
6. One book that you wish had been written: A modern adaptation of The Frog Prince. I adore fairy tale adaptations. (see also: McKinley's Beauty, Lackey's The Fire Rose, Yolen's Tam Lin...) God bless Bill Willingham for the latest storyline arc in Fables.
7. One book that you wish had never been written: Star Wars: Dark Apprentice. Or anything else by Kevin J. Anderson. Why is that man still allowed to write books? Die, Kyp Durron, die.
8. One book you're currently reading: This is your Brain on Music, Daniel Levitin. I'm loving it, but especially when I'm working hard in school, my tolerance of reading non-fiction for pleasure is about ten pages a week.
9. One book you've been meaning to read: Collapse, Jared Diamond. See above. I need to finish Guns, Germs, and Steel first, and I've been reading it for about five years.
Bonus question: What book scared you the most? The Bone Doll's Twin, Lynn Flewelling. Awesome book. Damn creepy. Hi, they killed my brother at birth to disguise me as a boy, and my mom went batshit crazy and dug up his bones and then some other lady SEWED THEM INTO A DOLL which I now carry around. AAAAAUGH.
