Zzzzzz....

The thing about fieldwork is: It tricks you into exercising. It tricks you into exercising far beyond the point where you'd have granted yourself mercy if you went to the gym.

I did some calculations yesterday. I had to squat down 4-6 times for each plot I sampled. In the course of sampling 33 plots, I therefore did between 132 and 198 squats. And that's not counting the hiking, contortion to avoid blackberry brambles, stooping to get under taller plants to find the ones I was looking for...

All of this explains why my body hates me today.

I was wiped out last night after a day in the field. I got home, showered, ordered a pizza because I was too tired to cook (and by God, I deserved a pizza after yesterday!), studied for comps for about an hour, and then crawled into bed at quarter till nine.

I then woke up at quarter till two, uncomfortable and sore and unable to go back to sleep.

I finally started to doze again this morning, just in time to get up and go to work.

Strangely, after five hours of sleep and OMGSORE, I am feeling pretty darn good.

Ensemble Auditions

Elisel-

I did not put, but was very close to putting, you in the ensemble. I
would like for you to work with B---- on opening up the top and getting
the notes connected. If we lose a soprano, you will be the first in.
If you respond really well, we may put you in at some point anyway.

-D----

I'll take that. ♥ I'm a little disappointed of course, but I can't fault the call; my soprano range is horrifyingly rusty right now. (I hope I can get it back - that it's a matter of being vocally "out of shape," and not a loss of range, because I definitely don't have the low notes in alto.) I'm very excited about the voice classes they're going to be giving: A /free/ chance to work on my bad singing habits? Hell, yeah!

Plus, not being in Ensemble till after comps? Probably a good thing.
