T Minus 3 days

Progress check:

  • Wednesday: Finish preliminary review of Biometry & Multivariate Stats
  • Thursday: Review stuff for Prof L: Plant Taxonomy, etc.
  • Friday: EcoEvo lunch discussion; seminar; work on Bossman's samples; review Wetlands Ecology.
  • Saturday: Buy instant dinners for next week and move all needed books to my office at school, just in case I get to use them for any of the exams. Review Plant Ecology.
  • Sunday: Review Invasive Species Ecology, Statistics. Avenue Q in the evening! ♥
  • Monday: Review Chemical Ecology, start with Population Genetics.
  • Tuesday: Finish reviewing Pop Genetics. Take the evening off.
  • Wednesday: Comps begin!

I actually 'ported my books over to school on Sunday, having forgotten that Saturday was homecoming and I wouldn't be able to get near the place.

Avenue Q was awesome and a much-needed break. We met up with [livejournal.com profile] zoonut and [livejournal.com profile] nataspowers before the show for drinks, and went to the Saucer afterwards for a beer (I had a diet coke - but it was on tap! Woo!) and post-show-snack. Then a long drive home

Today it's back to the grindstone. Grind, grind, grind.

Reminiscence

It was my 12th grade teacher for AP Biology that really hooked me on the subject. (I always think of her when I study genetics because she taught me a really great mnemonic for keeping the purines and pyrimidines straight. Fourteen years later, I still remember it.) We were a class of six -- a rarity in the public school system -- and we did some really advanced stuff for our level of education. It was an amazing experience. Mrs. Carrier is a large part of the reason I became a biology major and I will always remember her with incredible fondness and respect.

Two years later, I came back to visit my high school and went eagerly looking for her. I wanted to tell her I'd just declared as a Biology major. I found out she'd died of cancer.

It still makes me want to cry. She changed my life, and she never knew.

I wonder how many people we touch without ever even realizing it?
