(Does anybody else remember that campfire song, or is it just me?)

The Coldwater River, which hasn't been channelized or bounded with levees, flooded this morning, overflowing its banks and connecting to the backwater swamps on either side, so when I drove up I-55 to take my samples, I got a couple of miles of water and flooded bottomland hardwood on either side of the road. It was absolutely breathtaking to see a river get to do what rivers are meant to do.

Despite the fact that I had to sample off a bridge in the cold misty rain today, I found myself really enjoying the weather. I guess there's a point at which it's so miserable outside that it's actually pleasant.

That, or the antihistamine I've been prescribed (for what appears to be a spontaneous food allergy TO CHOCOLATE - WTF?!) is strongly impairing my judgment.
