Back to reality
Apr. 14th, 2009 09:09 pmSo, a Catholic, a Hindu, and a Protestant walk into a bar in D.C...
It sounds like the start of a bad joke, but this actually happened. T, L, and I had a fantastic time in Washington. I don't exaggerate when I say we haven't spent this much time together in fifteen years, but we were able to pick back up where we left off, and that's a really rare thing. It was so great to see them again! We spent a lot of time just talking, catching up on one another's lives, and reminiscing about stupid things we did in high school, and how we've all changed.
Saturday was rainy, and Sunday was windy, bitterly cold, and beautiful. Sunday we did the monuments and war memorials, and then went to Great Falls National Park for a picnic and a bit of a hike. It meant we didn't make it to Chinatown, but the National Park was definitely prettier, and the day had finally warmed up enough that a lunch outside was pleasant, so we made the right call. We drove back to Atlanta on Monday, where I crashed on L's couch before heading home early this morning to avoid traffic. (It also got me home just before noon, after which I took a wonderfully satisfying nap.)
Tomorrow it's back to the grind, playing catch-up and looking forward to the next flurry of trips in early May. This vacation was great, though! I feel refreshed and ready to tackle the next few weeks.
