I hope you dance...
May. 16th, 2009 07:59 pmSo, I have this problem with putting down something I'm doing and moving on to another activity. (This is why I end up staying awake till 5 am to finish books I've already read. This is also why I can play Chocobo Hot and Cold for hours and hours, even when there are no chocographs left.)
This applies to social stuff, too, because as an introvert it's really easy to say "I'm having a good time by myself with this game/movie/book/assignment, I don't really want to go out and be socially awkward in a large group."
But today I got my butt up and went to Lake Annie with a bunch of the other interns for an afternoon barbecue. We swam in the lake (I did not get eaten by alligators - bonus), and played watermelon polo until we were exhausted and the poor melon couldn't take any more (I have now groped most of the people on the station, which is sort of like being introduced, right?), and ate barbecued wild hog killed right here on the biological station (think global, eat local?). It was a grand time, and I got to meet people and talk and lie in the sun.
I've enjoyed the past week immensely, but today more than ever, I walked away glad I made the decision to come down here for the summer. The preparation was grueling and it was a damn lot of trouble, but it's completely worth it now that I am here and in the moment.
Today, I danced. I'm glad I did.
