Movie Day

Woohoo! I did something yesterday that I have always intended to do, and never gotten to. A friend and I spent a day at the movies.

No, really. An entire day at the theatre, going from one show to another. It was a good weekend for it. Didn't get to see everything I wanted ( Hulk and Sinbad are still on the list) but we did pretty well. Deciding, also, that the four-star scale is mainly stupid, we have our own, far more practical, scale: 1) Would buy it; 2) Would buy it, on sale; 3) Might rent it; and 4) Would not watch again, ever, ever ever ever, if it were the only thing on three thousand channels. (We may be missing some intermediaries between 3 and 4, but oh, well.)

So, here's the line up from yesterday (mostly spoilerless):

1) LXG: I'd buy it, if it were on sale. It wasn't a *good* movie, but I really enjoyed it a lot, and it was obvious they had fun making it. I'd read the comics, so noticed the differences, but they were good ones. Eddie Izzard would note that they threw an American in to make the film sell in America - which they probably did. But Tom Sawyer made a surprisingly good addition to the team. Plus, he was *cool*. Woo, fun movie.

2) Pirates of the Carribean: I will not only buy this one, but probably go see it again before it comes out on DVD. This was easily the best movie I saw yesterday. And NOT just because I got to watch Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom at the same time - really. Pirates, mythology, a hell of a sense of humor, and a heroine who is actually USEFUL and SMART... these things make me happy. And Jack Sparrow, whom I shall not rant about, as Durodragon has done a pretty good job of doing so. (Aside: You can always tell when you know someone, when you scroll down your LJ posts and fully expect precisely what you find. ;) If you have not, already... SEE THIS FILM.

3) 28 Days Later: This was a very good film. I will never, ever, ever watch it again, much like Schindler's List. I prefer Emergence for this sort of thing - it's less gruesome, has more humor, and, well, there's a parrot in it. See [livejournal.com profile] whisperflight for more information. :P

4) Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle: Yeah, I went to see this. Any movie about Gradius, right? I'd rent it, but only for Creepy Thin Man. I think - and this is going to sound ridiculous, unless you've seen the film - that they pushed the envelope TOO hard as far as unbelievable stunts go, this time. And this from someone who watches martial arts films. But it was a fun, light, goofy film, and after 28 days, I NEEDED that.

Ghee. Frivolous Saturday. Go, me.
