Travels and Travails
Jun. 22nd, 2005 10:17 pmThough, so far at least, light on the travails! Pardon me while I find some wood to knock upon.
AJL's wedding was beautiful: Fairy-tale stuff. But oh, do I have stories:
1) The bride paid for us to have a hairdresser do our...you guessed it!...hair. I had mine up, as per often, when we arrived. She asked who was first, and I got up and took my hair down. Her expression was so very priceless. I wish I had a picture of her face. Poor lady. ...But this woman was amazing. I think she wove a basket on the back of my head, I really do. I'll have to see the photos to be sure.
2) Suggestion for
dayoff and
storm_dancer: Keep your wedding bands in a safety deposit box until the morning of the wedding. "Honey, where are the rings?" is a VERY BAD PHRASE to hear at 1am, the night before the wedding. Working out that the movers must have stolen them the previous week is even worse.
3) Suggestion for
dayoff and
storm_dancer, part the second: Do not make your bridesmaids wear high heels. I have discovered that while walking in heels really isn't very painful, having to stand still in them for 45 minutes was actually an historic form of torture, heavily utilized in the... um...early 2000's. Primarily last weekend. OW.
4) Speaking of time period, here we are in the 21st century! Wow! I have no idea how, during his sermon, the preacher got away with admonishing the bride to be submissive and respectful to her husband. He honestly stated that "a common failure of wives is that they do not submit to their husbands." Probably I'm the only bridesmaid who'll show up in the photographs with my JAW HANGING OPEN IN AMAZED HORROR, in the middle of the ceremony.
Anyway, aside from a preacher who I SWEAR DOES NOT REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF ALL CHRISTIANITY, the wedding was really nice. AJL and I also worked out that we've known each other for 21 years - that's longer than anyone I've known who isn't blood kin. It was really great to see her again.
From there, I went to Fripp, saw Dad, Stepmonster, and Sister. Got to walk around on the beach under the full moon, hand-feed more deer, and generally have an awesome time.
Today I flew to Delaware. Our first pilot ROCKED. "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. My goal is to get you to Atlanta before my cup of Starbucks cools, so we should be there in about thirty minutes. We've got fuel for two hours, in case you're wondering. As you probably all know, this is a non-smoking flight, but if we're still up here two hours from now, then feel free to light 'em up. We do appreciate you travelling Delta AirLines; if you've seen our ledgers, you know how much we need the business right now! Have a nice flight."
I am now ensconsed in my hotel room. Tomorrow is for interview, YAY. Stay tuned for further updates!
