Five of my students - one fourth of the class - showed up on time this morning. Given that I was there 45 minutes ahead of time, I'm justifiably annoyed at this worsening trend. Then they're lost in the lectures and don't understand the materials and they blame me? WTF.

Another statistic: Four students - a fifth of the class - didn't take their last exam. They were absent Wednesday. Two of those four (only two!) got in touch with me to arrange a make-up. They were going to show up early this morning and start before class so they wouldn't miss much lecture.

They didn't show. Neither of them showed for the make-up OR the lecture, in fact.

One of them came in about 8:30 as we were finishing up (early), and said she'd overslept. I've heard nothing from the other. Nothing.

I'm going to muderize them all. I'm going to send my PENGUIN ARMY OF DEATH after them. I'm going to do as [livejournal.com profile] durodragon suggested on AIM last night, and put orc masks on them for Halloween - the stage a LARP with real weapons.

Anybody want to play in a Memphis-based LARP?

I stopped at Kroger on the way home from class, all cranky and annoyed, to drop my paycheck at the bank (they are so not paying me enough for this shit!) and pick up some baby spinach for the canaries. THEY HAD HALLOWEEN PETIT FOURS in the deli. ...Oh, yes. They are mine now. <3

But when I got to the U-scan, they rang up more expensive than they were supposed to. Upon pointing this out to the cashier, I had to wait about ten minutes for them to sort it out - because our convenient technology, you see, has evolved PAST the point when we could just type in a new price and be done with it. It's so user-friendly now that it takes hours to do anything.

However, my good karma kicked in: Not only did I get the petit-fours free, but I got a $5 gift card to use for the rest of my purchase, so I got about twelve bucks' worth of groceries for under two dollars.

AND the bank, which was closed while I was standing in line since it was before 10 AM, had time to open while they were sorting out the mess.

I am significantly cheered. Of course, the sugar fix helps, too.
