It has been a good weekend.
And it's only halfway done!
Last night I met up with
sonicshadow and his crew for a game of Buffythulu, which quickly devolved into the Quest for the Elusive and Deadly
Winnebego Wendigo.
I spent today trying to motivate myself into doing some schoolwork, and managed to get a pitiful fraction of work done before meeting up with the Biograds for dinner at
Taylor Grocery. (I am somewhat disturbed by the fact that: 1) The website describes it as a "Fish Camp and Catfish Parlor," and 2) I nonetheless had a REALLY REALLY good time sitting on the porch drinking wine out of a Soho plastic cup. Does this mean I've been living in Mississippi too long?)
Side note: When your hostess gets a phone call from her niece telling her that the tornado in Water Valley is heading straight for you, there is something liberating about realizing that you are standing on the front porch of a hundred-plus-year-old
shack. The urge to seek cover sort of evaporates when you know you'll be no safer at the back of the shack than you are on the porch.
On the other hand, I take some relish in knowing that I was safer tonight, overall, than
benma was on his way home last Saturday. I'm pretty sure there were no stray cows within a mile radius of my location.
Tomorrow I'm headed to Memphis to help with the House of Mews move. I may also be stopping by the Apple Store to look at a new iPod.
I'll know more once I get it out of the freezer.
