Treehugger Suggestion of the Day
Feb. 4th, 2008 08:14 pmI just found out that TVA, everybody's favorite big brother of electricity, offers a Green Power alternative. For $4 per month, you can buy 150-kwh blocks of "green" energy: Power generated through solar, methane, or wind power instead of through fossil fuel burning. You can buy as many blocks as you want, and cancel the service at any time; all you have to do is call up your provider and ignore them when they try to discourage you from enrolling. :/ (Seriously. I have been told that they do this. I shake my fist in frustrated rage!)
My local provider offers it - yeah, guess who I'm calling, first thing in the morning. MLGW does, too. So this is my hippie treehugger suggestion for the day: If you're in the MLGW service area, give them a call and enroll in the program. Come on, folks - four bucks a month to use renewable resources for some of your power! (Insert obnoxious statistic here about how many cups of Starbucks coffee four bucks can buy.)
This program makes me deliriously happy. It's a small thing, but a good start. And it's a choice that I - that we - can make. Little choices, added up, truly do make a difference. ♥
