Stealth Injuries
Feb. 11th, 2009 02:46 pmBad things:
Somebody snuck into my room last night and beat me up while I was asleep. This is the only explanation I have for my exhaustion this morning (despite what should've been a good night's sleep), my achey eyes, my wrenched right wrist, and the goose-egg bruise on the meaty part of my right forearm.
Seriously, how did I do that to myself in the middle of the night? I noticed it for the first time this morning when I rolled over to hit 'snooze', and went, "...Ow." Maybe it's time to stop sleeping with the iPod, even if books on tape are a great way to fall asleep. The lump in my arm is just precisely headphone-sized.
As a result, I was tired and cranky for no good reason all this morning. This made me particularly uncreative and surly as I cursed after the cars speeding by while I did this month's bridge sampling in Southaven.
Good things:
On the other hand, the hard work I put in last month replacing the rope on the Van Dorn sampler paid off. The new rope works beatifully and solves at least three obnoxious problems I'd been struggling with. I'm not really good at repairing gadgetry, even scientific sampling gadgetry, so this makes me absurdly proud.
Also, I always forget to mention this, but
rabidlemur, I drive RIGHT BY that Mexican ice cream shop on my way to the bridge site. (I didn't stop this month for tasty ice cream on account of having just finished an emergency I'm-tired-and-on-the-road coffee, but I did last month.) Do I remember correctly that you work in the area? I ought to try to catch you for lunch next time around.
I got back to the office and found someone had brought in a baggie of leftover candy from some child's party or other. I snagged one at random and found, to my delight, that I'd gotten a foil-wrapped fudge-coated oreo cookie.
And suddenly, all is right with the world.
